OSIRIS HERTMAN
Osiris Hertman works in various studios in the Netherlands to carefully utilize all the necessary disciplines.
He has a steel studio for welding and polishing his stainless steel work, a ceramics studio for making his ceramic legs, and a studio for painting with transparent lacquers in Haarlem.
The burnt steel table illustrates Hertmans’ innovative approach to materials: The stainless steel table legs, rolled in two directions, contrast with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban wood, which has been burned to create a distinct, charred surface. This burnt wood structure is further enhanced by a transparent epoxy layer, which shines through subtly and emphasizes the depth and texture of the surface. The interplay between the industrial, reflective steel and the raw, dark wood, combined with the glossy finish of the epoxy, creates an intriguing interplay between reflection and texture, giving the whole a powerful, contemporary look.
Hertman’s mirrored wall sculptures, tables, and cabinets transcend their glossy surfaces. They question our perception, blurring the line between object and environment. These works invite active interaction, drawing the viewer into a dynamic experience of the object and creating a profound sense of presence and depth.
Osiris Hertman is a renowned name in the world of design and interior design. He graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven and has since created award-winning interiors and products, including Fort Resort Beemster and Brass Boer Curaçao. His work has been published worldwide, encompassing architecture from Bali to Monaco and from Italy to Portugal. Hertman’s practice encompasses hotel and restaurant design, custom furniture, tile design, and jewelry. His architectural and design style is instantly recognizable: every object, from interior to furniture, is crafted by artisans from around the world, according to Hertman’s meticulous drawings.
